I fjor ble Vanunu løslatt fra israelsk fengsel etter å ha sonet en dom på 18 år for å ha avslørt utvikling av atomvåpen ved det kjernefysiske anlegget Dimona i Negev-ørkenen.

Vanunu kontaktet den britiske avia Sunday Times og fortalte alt han visste. Men før saken kom på trykk, kidnappet israelsk etterretning Vanunu og smuglet ham tilbake til Israel.
Vanunu ble utsatt for den klassiske honningfella: En vakker kvinne lokket ham til Roma. Der ble han dopet ned, kidnappet og brakt til Israel, rettssak og 18 års fengsel for spionasje.
Mange israelere mener fortsatt at Vanunu er en landsforræder. Amnesty International mener at Vanunu var en samvittighetsfange.
For ett år siden - 21. april i fjor - ble han løslatt. Men friheten har han likevel ikke fått tilbake.
Han får ikke lov til å snakke med utlendinger eller kontakte andre lands ambassader. Han får ikke forlate Israel, og myndighetene må varsles hvis han skal reise bort eller overnatte et annet sted enn hjemme hos seg selv.
Vanunu har heller ikke lov til å ha mobiltelefon eller bruke internett. Likevel vil Vanunu stille opp på nettmøte med Dagbladet.nos lesere.

Unfortunately I'll be very surprised if you ever would get it. Norwegian governement are sissys and would never dare to do such a thing, They're too scared to offend Israel and disturb their so called "neutral" and "peacemaking" role which they think they have in the middle east. That's why Erna Solberg denied you asylum here too, even though several people have said they're ready to employ you. It's at such times I'm ashamed to be a Norwegian...

What exactly do you expect that (even a democratic) a country should do in cases like your?
Being a Sephardic Jew, exposed to the "other" kind of anti-semmitism, that the one Askenozi had to endure in Europe, you dare to turn your back on Israel when all what Israel does is to make sure the same people that oppressed you, and your family in Marocco, don't crush the Eretz?
I am not Jewish, and I do not support every action of Israel. I am not driven by any religious (blinding) reasons.
But really; what you should regard as "your country" has done what very few other countries would do. They released you. After you served your sentence, which you deserve - for treason. Any neighbour of Israel would place you with your back to the nearest brickwall!
Only the naive Norway would treat you less harsh than you have been treated in Israel.

Actually I have no questions for you, because I know that this sionist-"state" israel is the most threatining and aggresive "state" in this world. Democracy in the State of Israel

Mr. Vanunu, I consider your extraordinary story to be a good example of the anti-democratic nature of the State of Israel. A State that does not permit its own citizens to express their opinions in the press seems to be in violation of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ("Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference").
I understand that you might be tired of the legal process by now, but have you considered pursuing such matters at an international tribunal of some sort?
On a related note, what chance do you think there is of seeing a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict along the lines of what the late Edward Said and others have suggested (i.e. a one-state solution...As Said once wrote, "The question, I believe, is not how to devise means for persisting in trying to separate them but to see whether it is possible for them to live together as fairly and peacefully as possible.")? Is this unrealistic in today's anti-democratic state of affairs within Israel, even as a long-term goal?

About prison: I was 17 and half years in one cell alone. As the most dangerous prisoner, it was very cruel and barbaric treatment to be alone.

Now, there's a ton of questions i would like to ask, but this one is what i'm the most interested in; "they" say that norwegian politicians (among others Erna Solberg, the woman "in charge" of immigration and asylum poilitics) are denying your arrival not because of rules or any regulations, but because it would be a potentially bad move diplomatically. i hear statements saying "as norway has such a diplomatic role in the middle east, they are simply prohibited from doing something like this" - is it a hostile diplomatic act against israel to grant you a meaningful and free existence? what do you think yourself about the israeli diplomatic blackmail methods?

About US, we are now in the new century, post Cold War and we need to have new world order. That could be started by all Europe and US behaving fairly with Israel to end the Middle East conflict. Europe is still under the past history pressure. The world didn't find yet the answer to this Israel aggressive policies. I believe in this new century Europe and all the world should leave the past behind and demanding from Israel to respect real democracy and do for ending the Palestinian suffering in occupation and in refugee camps.

Staying sane in isolation?

Please let me first say that I admire you enormously for doing what you believe is right, even though you knew, then and now, that there would be severe repercussions. If there were more people like you, the world would be a better place.
And now the question: Isolation, to a fundamentally social animal such as man, is one of the worst forms of torture. When you spent all those years in solitary confinement in Israel, how did you stay sane, not to mention thinking and defiant? Were you ever worried that the outside world had forgotten your plight?

I just want to tell you that I am, on behalf of the majority of the norwegian people, particullary shamed about our government and Minister Erna Solberg. Not to help a human being to freedom does not fit my moral instincts. The battle for freedom and peace that you are fighting, with such braveness, highly admirable. This makes it even harder to understand Minister Erna Solberg desicion in this case. If she would have let you into Norway, it wolud have been looked upon as radical. As you prabably know, Norway is not famous for being radical.
I am a music student who clearly see how peacemaking music is, and how dreadfull "the real world" is, compared to the fabulous world of music.
When it comes to peacemaking I think a time has come when we need to use other or additional methods than the traditional diplomatic or political ones. I think it may be usefull to establish Peace within the PEOPLE, not only between some randomly picked men(and a few women). Iraq is an excellent examlpe of this, what i like to call modern conflicts. No matter how many peaceagreement they sign it is totally up to the people if they want to live in peace. I think it is here we should help the population of conflict areas. It is way too much attention arround political and diplomatical matters, making them to nothing more than superstars for the majority of the population.
I think music is recommendable in peacemaking because it is a language everybody understands, no matter of nationality, color, age, education etc. Especially with children, I think it is possible to build bridges because they are born innocent. And it is the younger generation which is importent to bring into peace, our futures generation.
Well, I have to go back to my studies. It would be an hounour to me if you could express your opinion on what I wrote.
And I will give you my best wishes into and unsecure future.

I really respect you, Morderchai Vanunu, for what you did. You made a choice of what you thought was the right decision.
However, do you see yourself as a traitor? If not, what is then a traitor? I am not sure I know myself. In one way, I can see your opinion that what you reveal to the press was of international concern. Nonetheless, did you do it the right way? Also, is it not quite a hypocrital situation you hiave put yourself in, as you yourself are a nuclear techician (I am aware that nuclera powers can be used to the benefit of human mankind, but still the potential dangers outweights the benefits in my opinion)
Do you believe that your action led to someting good? Or did it merely futher decrease the international reputation of Isreal? Was that your goal?
Personally, I think Israel should have been open about the fact that they possessed nuclear arms. Neverthelessl as a well devleoped democracy I think Israel has the right to do so.
My last questions are; Do you find it unfair, or unjustice that you were imprisoned? Is it not nesscessary for a govenrment to sometimes conceal information? should the public always be informed?

The 18 years in prison for doing the only right thing must have been terrible, how did you cope with the prisontime?
Are the Israelian prisons low or high standard (Norwegian prisons have rooms with TV, Computers etc)?
After you was released you wanted to come to norway, my impression of you through your actions and the few glimps i have seen from you on TV is that you are a very strong and tough man with a conscience that you listen to.
I cant see why the norwegian governemnt wont help you, ok you have been in prison but only for doing the right thing and you should be accepted as a political refugee.
Others they have let into our contry are criminals(mafia, robbers,drugdealers etc).
Search for asylum again!
