Liverpool vant Champions League

Tatt imot som helter etter triumfen i Madrid.

Champions League-finalen ble ingen festforestilling for den nøytrale tilskuer, men Liverpools spillere, trenere og supportere kunne bryte løs i hemningsløs jubel etter 90 minutter på Wanda Metropolitano i Madrid.

Det ble naturligvis feiret inn i de sene nattetimer både i den spanske hovedstaden og hjemme i Liverpool, og den engelske storklubben kan nå skryte av å ha gått til topps i Europa hele seks ganger i løpet av historien.

Trofeet ble løftet av kaptein Jordan Henderson i Madrid i går, men i dag fikk også lokalbefolkningen hjemme i Merseyside få ta en kikk på pokalen.

En parade er en naturlig del av en Champions League-triumf, og i dag kjørte Liverpool-spillerne rundt i buss gjennom Liverpools gater, som var omgjort til et hav av folk kledd i rødt. Flere sto lang veien, mens andre hadde klatret opp på bygninger og andre høye objekter for å få god utsikt mot bussen.

Ifølge Liverpool City Council hadde en halv million mennesker møtt opp for å hylle heltene sine. Trafikken langs ruta sto stille, og utålmodige bilister måtte pent vente på at den røde bussen sakte tok seg gjennom gatene.

Liverpool-bussen nådde fram til torget The Strand rundt kl. 19 i kveld, hvor feiringen vil fortsette. Det er nok ikke utenkelig at en eller to kommer for seint til jobb mandag morgen.

Spillerne og manager Jürgen Klopp har stått på toppen av bussen, og langs ruta har den populære sangen «Allez, allez, allez» runget fra supporterne.

Lørdagens finale ble avgjort etter scoringer fra Mohamed Salah og innbytter Divock Origi. Liverpool tapte fjorårets finale mot Real Madrid, men fikk sin revansje ett år senere. Tottenham lengtet også etter et europeisk trofé, men klarte ikke å true de rødkledde i nevneverdig grad.
